Biography

    Arfat Sheikh is a filmmaker and producer known for telling powerful, nuanced stories that explore identity, resilience, and justice. Born in Kashmir, a conflict zone that continues to shape their perspective, their work often delves into themes of displacement and the human cost of conflict. Their latest film, Saffron Kingdom, has earned widespread acclaim, winning Best Feature Film at the Chicago Filmmakers Award, the LA Film and Documentary Awards, the Melbourne Independent Film Festival, the Wake Forest Film Festival, and the Anatolian International Film Awards. It also won Best Writer for a Feature Film at the Florida South Asian Film Festival and received nominations at festivals like the London Director Awards and ARRF Barcelona International Film Festival.

    As the Managing Director of Daffodil Studios, a 501(c) organization, Panelist 3 is dedicated to creating impactful films while offering multimedia services to support nonprofit causes. They recently completed post-production on Whispers of the Valley, a film chronicling the lives of half-widows in Darapora, a village in Kashmir with the highest number of half-widows. They are also directing Travesty of Justice – Afzal Guru, a documentary critically examining India’s judicial bias toward Kashmiris. Having lived in Srinagar, Delhi, Leeds, Atlanta, and now Washington, D.C., Arfat continues to craft narratives that transcend borders and challenge perspectives through cinema.
